Blackberry Storm I ( Blackberry 9500 )

I’ve always been curious about new technology and several months ago I was wondering what all the fuzz about Blackberry. In the spirit of discovery and adventures of new technology, I bought myself a new blackberry device called Blackberry 9500 or also known as Blackberry Storm I.

This Blackberry Storm has many interesting features such as GPS ( Global Positioning System ), 3.2 MP camera lens with Auto-Focus, Multimedia, Push Mail and of course BBM ( Blackberry Messenger ). The GPS installed in this device also accompany by software from Blackberry called Blackberry Maps. Unfortunately no WIFI installed and the RAM available only 128 MB so if you want to install new applications, you better watch out for your RAM or else your device will hang.
I tested this device using Telkomsel with monthly fees Rp. 150.000,- but for the first month I only had to pay for Rp. 120.000,-. Telkomsel offers other package as well if you want cheaper fees. You can also choose to pay daily and weekly but I recommended to pay monthly in case you forget to activate the blackberry service the next day or the next week.

If you upgrade the software, you can use external memory card up to 8 GB. But there’s a downside, the software will need more of your RAM so the available RAM for applications will be smaller.

Using touch-screen keypad can be an exciting experience since the keypad in this device is a little bit different than the other touch-screen keypad. Unfortunately it’s quite difficult using this kind of keypad to enter a new entry in the phonebook/blackberry contacts. If you find this a problem then try using Blackberry Desktop Manager combine with Microsoft Outlook.

First of all, add all of your entry into Microsoft Outlook Contact. Next, install Blackberry Desktop Manager. Final step, synchronize the Blackberry Device and your computer. You will find all your contacts in Microsoft Outlook already in your Blackberry Contacts. You can also use this trick for Organizer as well.

Facebook for Blackberry is one of the applications that I installed in this device. At a glance, there’s nothing different in this version and the version for other mobile phone. The difference is you add your facebook buddy directly to your Blackberry Contact and if your buddy change the phone no in their Facebook profile then it automatically change the phone no in your Blackberry Contact. It also pull data from facebook events directly to your Blackberry calendar and when you synchronize with Microsoft Outlook then it will be added automatically in the organizer.

I really love Blackberry Storm I and I can’t wait to try Blackberry Storm II :D
